Mr Lau is a Senior Partner at McKinsey & Co, and the Greater China Head for its Telecom, Media and Technology (TMT) Practice. He has been advising media and Internet companies, telecom operators and consumer electronics makers on strategy, finance, marketing and organization transformations since the late 1990s. He has worked across the media space, advising TV broadcasters, cable operators, movie studios and print/music publishers in Asia. On the digital side, he began working in the Internet space in China since the first days of the Internet boom in 1999, and advised Internet leaders in M&A, post-merger integration, operation improvement, new business partnerships, and targeted marketing via advanced analytics.

Voted Bank Risk Manager of the Year 2011 by Asia Risk Magazine for leading Bank of China Hong Kong (BOCHK) Group in the successful FIRB accreditation with HKMA, the first ever IRB accreditation for a China-based bank in the world. Edwin was also the Chairman of the Basel Implementation Committee of the Hong Kong Bankers Association in 2011. Before his retirement in Jan, 2014, Edwin headed the Basel Implementation Office in BOCHK Group and was responsible for the development and implementation of the overall Basel Program for retail banking, corporate banking, and RWA calculation engine for the BOCHK Group consisting of four banks and BOC Credit Card International. He joined BOCHK in May 2007 and completed the IRB development in a short span of 18 months, and after complying with the regulatory requirement for a two-year model use test, secured the HKMA accreditation on January 1, 2011. He further led the Bank Group in the AIRB development and implementation during 2011 for the corporate, FI and sovereign portfolios.

James worked for NatWest Bank in the UK for 11 years where he held a variety of positions in Retail and Corporate banking. As well as business focused roles in Branch Banking, Risk and Relationship Management, he moved into analytical functions within Corporate Banking, and finally into the Corporate Banking Data Warehousing team, where he played a key role in the development of a new Data Warehouse, and led the team delivering user support and data warehouse application development. On joining Teradata in 1999 James worked initially as a Finance Industry Consultant in Teradata's UK team, and then moved to the EMEA team in 2005. During his time at Teradata James has engaged with a range of banks across EMEA, both on a pre-sales and project implementation basis, focusing particularly on the Finance, Customer Value and Risk Management (including Basel II & III) subject areas.
